In a testament to the strength of the company’s technology and business plan, Cambridge Photon Technology has won new grant funding in two competitions run by Innovate UK.

In Round 1 of the Sustainable Innovation Fund, CPT successfully proposed a 9-month project to accelerate new materials development through the hiring of new scientific staff. The £218,000 project will enable the company to make up more than the ground lost to pandemic-related delays, and will speed the development of high-efficiency solar photovoltaic products essential to a sustainably electrified future economy.

In the Smart Grants competition, a highly competitive programme for “ambitious or disruptive R&D innovations that can make a significant impact on the UK economy,” CPT won approval for a £498,000 project that will deliver a world-first demonstration of a photon multiplier film working on a silicon solar cell. This will be an important step forward both for the company’s product development, and in establishing British leadership in advanced materials for clean power generation.
